1 NOTE John Winfield was born July 30 1897 in Kalida Ohio.He moved with
2 CONC his family to Milton Oregon. He was raised on the farm on the
2 CONC North fork of the Walla Walla river. He attended school thru the
2 CONC eight grade at Walla Walla Forks schoolhouse. He went to work
2 CONC instead of attending high school.
2 CONT He married Cora Rebecca Beamer of Weston Oregon on February 3
2 CONC 1919.
2 CONT He drove team as a farm worker from March until July on the
2 CONC Wilk's ranch at Cold Springs Oregon area. He worked harvest and
2 CONC field work betwen 1921-1924.
2 CONT They lived in Weston Oregon and he  worked for the railroad as
2 CONC foreman of the repair crews out of Reperia, Washington.
2 CONT John and Cora had three children and raised them in Athena
2 CONC Oregon. John worked for Preston Schaffer Milling Company from
2 CONC 1924 till it closed in 1959. John then did maintenence work for
2 CONC the  Athena Cemetery Association  for two years until he retired
2 CONC in 1961.
2 CONT John died of a heart attack on December 21 1963 and was  buried
2 CONC in Weston Oregon.

1 NOTE David was born in Walla Walla and was raised in Kennewick Wa.
2 CONC David graduated from Kennewick High in 1969. He then went on to
2 CONC college at Coumbia Basin College and received an Associates
2 CONC Degree in Automotive Technology. 
2 CONT He met Audrey at a church function in 1972 but they didn't
2 CONC really hit it off until the spring of 1978 at a church retreat
2 CONC at Camp Wooten.  They were married in Denver in August of 1979.

2 CONT Dave and Audrey live in Kennewick and Dave works for Columbia
2 CONC Center Ford Where he has been employed for 16 years.

1 NOTE Ken was born in Pasco Washington. He went to school in Kennewick
2 CONC and graduated from high school in 1971. He then went on to

2 CONC with juveniles. He then went to work for Department of Social
2 CONC and Health Services. He worked in Yakima and Kennewcik offices. 
2 CONT He met Dale while he worked for the DSHS. He was inspecting
2 CONC daycares and met her at that time. They knew each other for
2 CONC several years before Ken and Dale married. They were married in
2 CONC November 1996 and Ken retired from the State at that time.
2 CONT They live in Clarkston running 9 daycares.

1 NOTE Sandra Kay was born in Kennewick General Hospital . She went to
2 CONC Kamaikin HS and graduated in 1975. She went to work for JC
2 CONC Penney's and worked there until 1983. She met George while
2 CONC working there. They were married June 4 1983.  She worked for
2 CONC Firestone for 1 year and then went to work with the One Hour
2 CONC Photo. She worked there for 3 years. She then went to work for
2 CONC the Holiday Inn as their night auditor. While working there, she
2 CONC decided to go to college full time. 
2 CONT Sandy graduated in 1988 with a Associate of Applied Science
2 CONC Degree in Sales And Marketeing. She continued to work for the
2 CONC hotel becoming the Guest Services Manager. After 7 years, Sandy
2 CONC decided to take a break and help George with their business. She
2 CONC did that for about six months and then went to work for Just
2 CONC Roses as a temporary worker that turned into permanent work.
2 CONT Sandy and George contnue to have their business of attending
2 CONC crafts shows and flea markets as vendors.

2 CONC Range Management. He went to work for the Bureau of Land
2 CONC Management in Shoshone Idaho in April 1977.
2 CONT He married Deanna Taylor in September 1977 in Kennewick
2 CONC Washington. They raised John and Joshua in Shoshone Idaho until
2 CONC 1991.
2 CONT Dick was then transferred to Lakeview Oregon and they adopted

1 NOTE Donald was born and went to school in  Athena Oregon. He joined
2 CONC the Navy in September  1943,  after high school and was
2 CONC discharged in 1946. In the Navy,  he was on the Battleship
2 CONC Colorado for 2 years in the Pacific. While there, he
2 CONC participated in  the Battles of the Marianna Islands, The
2 CONC Phillipines, and Okinawa. In the Phillipines, his ship was hit
2 CONC by a Kamikaze and he received minor burns on his back from the
2 CONC flying shrapnel.  After being discharged,  he worked several
2 CONC jobs until he went to work for Valley Feed in Milton, Oregon. 
2 CONT He met Carma Brown in Walla Walla on a blind date in February
2 CONC 1950. They became engaged in April 1950 and were married in
2 CONC October 1950.  They lived in Walla Walla for 2 years. The twins
2 CONC were born in July 1951 and the family moved to Kennewick Wa in
2 CONC 1952. Don started working for Farmer's Exchange in 1952 and they
2 CONC bought their house in 1953. 
2 CONT Don continued to work for Farmer's while raising his family. 
2 CONT Don took his family camping and Huckleberry picking every Labor
2 CONC Day. This was a tradition that has continued to this day and now
2 CONC includes his son in law.
2 CONT Don retired in 1986.   He now enjoys his leisure time puttering
2 CONC around the homestead and chihuahua herding.

1 NOTE Carma lived in Pendleton Or.until the age of 9. Her family moved
2 CONC to Walla Walla in 1939. She graduated from St. Patrick High
2 CONC School in 1948. Carma met Don on a blind date in February of '50
2 CONC and they married in October of that year.  She worked for the
2 CONC Credit Bureau of Walla Walla from high school until 1950. Don
2 CONC and Carma moved the family to  Kennewick in 1952. They finally
2 CONC bought their long sought after home in 1953. Carma was a
2 CONC Domestic Engineer until '60 when she start working outside the
2 CONC home. In 1965 Carma started  working with Don at Farmers
2 CONC Exchange.  In 1985 she started as a baker at The Country
2 CONC Gentlemen and was known for the best cheesecake in the  Tri-City
2 CONC area.  In '93 she became a waitress at the same place and
2 CONC continues to the present.

1 NOTE Deanna Taylor was born in Pullman, Washington July 19, 1955. She
2 CONC met Richard Mayberry in Pullman and they married in September
2 CONC 1977. They lived in Shoshone Idaho, where Dick worked for the
2 CONC Bureau of Land Management. Deanna is active in the local Church.

2 CONC She worked for her brother in his print shop for 10 years.  
2 CONT In 1972 she came to the Tri-Cities on a "SWIM" team, which
2 CONC stands for Summer Workshop In Ministires, when groups of teens
2 CONC and young adults help smaller churches in their outreach
2 CONC programs.  That Summer she met Dave at one of the church
2 CONC functions at Levy Landing on the Snake River.  She was only in
2 CONC the Kennewick for 6 weeks.  She and Dave were only friends.  She
2 CONC returned home at the end of the summer.  Although she  kept in
2 CONC touch with others in the church , she and Dave didn't get
2 CONC together until she returned for a church retreat at Camp Wooten
2 CONC on Memorial Day weekend in 1978.  That weekend, unknown to them,
2 CONC Dave and Audrey were sort of thrown together by members of the
2 CONC church.  I didn't think we needed any help because we hit it
2 CONC off. They spent much of that summer talking long distance and
2 CONC Audrey made several trips to Kennewick that year.  Dave came to
2 CONC Denver at Thanksgiving that year to meet Audrey's large family.
2 CONC On Dec. 9, 1978 Dave asked Audrey to marry him and she said yes.

2 CONT She moved to Kennewick in May of 1979 .  They were married in
2 CONC Denver that summer in August.   She got a job at Good News
2 CONC Graphics and worked there a couple of years.  Then she baby- sat
2 CONC off and on for several years.  She now works as church secretary

2 CONC 15. This marriage  produced 4 daughters Zola, Eula, Velma and
2 CONC Millie and 1 son, Teddy who died at 2yrs of pneumonia. Around
2 CONC 1927 these children were given up to a Catholic Orphanage in
2 CONC Portland Or. We have no Idea what became of William Palmer.

2 CONC Milton,Oregon. They settled on the north fork of the Walla Walla
2 CONC River about 17 miles from Milton. They farmed and raised seven
2 CONC children on the homestead. Wells passed away on April 27,1922.

1 NOTE Pratt{Pat} was born in Kalida Ohio. One thing that Pat
2 CONC remembered of the weather in Ohio was that it was so hot, that
2 CONC their mother had to soak sheets in cool water. The  boys then
2 CONC threw these over their beds so they could sleep at night.
2 CONT He moved to Milton,Oregon in 1906. He attended school.until the
2 CONC 8th grade. Pat's memories of growing up were centered on living
2 CONC on the Wala Walla River. The family worked hard,  but they had
2 CONC good times,too. The families on the river would have dances at
2 CONC each others homes.  Whoever could play an instrument or beat on
2 CONC pans with spoons would join in. The kitchen was filled with food
2 CONC and the bedrooms were filled with coats and little ones
2 CONC sleeping.
2 CONT He married Florence Banks September 4 1920 in Freewater Oregon.
2 CONC He worked as a farm laborer until 1927. He farmed the Toner
2 CONC place on the Little Dry Creek. Pratt then went into partnership
2 CONC with Ernest Harris 5 miles up the Walla Wallla River. He also
2 CONC worked on the construction of the road which started on Weston
2 CONC Mountain and ended in Richland Oregon.  He also worked on the
2 CONC highway between North Powder and Baker.
2 CONT Pratt returned to Athena Oregon and worked for Henry Koepke on
2 CONC the Wild Horse Creek. He worked for the Preston-Shaffer Milling
2 CONC Company in Pendleton until it burnt down.  
2 CONT Pat and Florence were divorced in 1936 and Pat remarried
2 CONC Kathleen Pederson Bryant in 1937. They bought interest in the
2 CONC Sportsman's Club in John Day Oregon,  where they lived until
2 CONC moving to Pendleton. While living in John Day,  Pat was active
2 CONC in city affairs and was Grand Marshall of the John Day- Canyon
2 CONC City Rodeo Celebration. Pat and Florence  had three children
2 CONC Leon, Maxine and Gerald.   
2 CONT Pat loved to hunt and fish and never missed a chance to do
2 CONC either. Wherever he lived, he found a spot to sink a box in the
2 CONC ground to grow worms. After a massive heart attack in John Day,
2 CONC Pat and Kathleen moved to Pendleton where he walked every day to
2 CONC the Rainbow Cafe. Here he had coffee with the regulars.
2 CONT Pat died of cancer June 25 1977 in Pendleton and was cremated.
2 CONC His ashes were scattered on the Columbia river where he loved to
2 CONC fish.

2 CONC Valley most of his life. He graduated  from Umapine High School

2 CONC Pacific Railroad. 
2 CONT When the war broke out, Leon joined and spent 4 years as a
2 CONC Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. His company
2 CONC participated in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He returned
2 CONC to the Valley  with a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and many other
2 CONC citations. Leon farmed from 1945-1970 and also worked for the US
2 CONC Post Office as a rural mailman in Lowden Washington. Bonita and
2 CONC Leon raised their family in Lowden, Wa.
2 CONT Leon was the Stagecoach Driver for the Walla Walla 59'er
2 CONC Stagecoach Organization from 1970-1980. In 1989, He drove the
2 CONC Stagecoach from Walla Walla to Olympia for Washington
2 CONC Centennial.
2 CONT Leon and Bonita were divorced in 1972 and Leon moved  to Lostine
2 CONC Oregon in 1975. Leon did the things he loved: hunting and
2 CONC fishing. He married Glenna Jo Buckley in 1973. Leon and Glenna
2 CONC had a farm in Lostine with Shire horses. They also ran a
2 CONC Wildlife Refuge for the local wildlife.
2 CONT Leon died of a heart attack in Enterprise Oregon and his ashes
2 CONC were scattered in the Lostine River.

2 CONC to try their wings, she and 3 friends transferred to  the
2 CONC Spokane office. She met Bob Deseve there and they were married
2 CONC in Walla  Walla on December 26 1946. 
2 CONT Bob came from a long line of loggers from Quebec Montreal,
2 CONC Canada and Montana. He continued in that line of work until he
2 CONC retired. Maxine worked of and on at the Farmer's Market in
2 CONC Milton-Freewater while raising their chirldren.
2 CONT They moved to Weston in 1973 and spend their time between Oregon
2 CONC and St Marie Idaho, where they have a summer home on the St Joe
2 CONC River.
2 CONT Maxine's memories of growing up include times spent at Rand &
2 CONC Gladys house, playing in the barn and creek with the Mayberry
2 CONC cousins. Each summer with Grandma and Ruth at their cabin at
2 CONC Camp McDougal. Bonnie, Maxine, and Ruth getting lost and scared
2 CONC til they realized they were within yelling distance of camp.
2 CONC Staying overnight at Uncle John and Aunt Cora's the night of an
2 CONC earthquake, he yelled at them to "quiet down", and eating  Aunt
2 CONC Cora's huckleberry pie.

2 CONC during this time the Mayberry cousins - Jerry, Leonard, and Don
2 CONC spent a lot of time "cruising " the St Mary's Hospital Nursing
2 CONC School. They each found the love of their lives there.
2 CONT Jerry met Mary Chacon and they were married June 8, 1948 in
2 CONC Walla Walla. Jerry started working with his brother-in-law,
2 CONC Robert Deseve in the logging industry and decided that the
2 CONC Forest Service was where he wanted to be.
2 CONT Jerry attended Blue Mountain College, while Mary continued
2 CONC nursing. Their son, Stephen was born in 1949. Jerry graduated
2 CONC with honors and went on to work as an engineer in the Forest
2 CONC Service in Walla Walla. He and Mary were divorced and he
2 CONC transferred to Klamath Falls, Oregon. He met his second wife,
2 CONC Gladys Richards there. They were married in 1969.
2 CONT Jerry died of a heart attack in 1983 at the age of 54. He was
2 CONC cremated and his ashes were scattered over Jubilee Lake Oregon.
2 CONC Jerry had logged off the lake bottom and had helped designed the
2 CONC roads and lay-out of the park.

1 NOTE Porter Mayberry was born in Kalida Ohio and moved with his
2 CONC parents and family to Oregon. He attended school thru the 8th
2 CONC grade and went to work on farms in the area. He had rheumatic
2 CONC fever when approximately 8 yrs old and was left with a rheumatic
2 CONC heart which ultimately caused his death in 1958.
2 CONT He met Rosie Arvilla Beamer and they were married in Weston
2 CONC Oregon on August 31,1922. They lived in the Weston Parsonage
2 CONC with his mother before moving by team and wagon to Granger
2 CONC Washington. The property they moved onto was owned by Arvilla's
2 CONC uncle Sam Key. 
2 CONT They then moved to Dalton Wa in 1924, where he worked for the
2 CONC railroad and also did some odd jobs. One of these jobs was using
2 CONC a borrowed team of mules to clear an area for the Teapot Dome
2 CONC Service Station.
2 CONT Their first daughter,Luella was born on April 25,1925 and died
2 CONC from complications due to Spinal Bifida on May 5, 1925.
2 CONT They then moved to the Ramerman place, where Porter worked for
2 CONC Mr Ramerman and helped build the Granger to Zillah Highway.
2 CONC Their second daughter Ellen was born on October 16,1928. They
2 CONC then moved back to Granger and their son Justin was born on June
2 CONC 21,1933. They moved several places in the area between Granger
2 CONC and Zillah, where they both worked on fruit ranches. Porter also
2 CONC drove school bus.
2 CONT Finally in 1943, they moved to their home in Prescott Wa. Porter
2 CONC worked for local farmers in the area and Arvilla worked in the
2 CONC canneries in Waitsburg, Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater.
2 CONT Porter played mouth harp and guitar by ear never having learned
2 CONC to read a note of music. He loved to fish and often would be
2 CONC found on the Snake River sturgeon fishing or up on the Tucannon
2 CONC Lakes fishing.
2 CONT Porter finally succumbed to his bad heart on February 25,1958
2 CONC and is buried in Weston Oregon.

2 CONC place. Her first daughter, Luella was born April 25 1925 but
2 CONC died on May 5 1925 due to complications from Spinal Bifida.
2 CONT They then moved to a farm near Granger where their second
2 CONC daughter,Ellen was born. Their third child, Justin was born June
2 CONC 21, 1933 while they lived between Granger and Zillah.
2 CONT Arvilla worked on some of the fruit ranches along with Porter.
2 CONC When they moved to Prescott, Arvilla worked in the canneries
2 CONC located in Waitsburg, Walla Walla, and Milton-Freewater. 
2 CONT After Porter passed away, Arvilla continued to live on the home
2 CONC place at Prescott and worked in the canneries. She also cooked
2 CONC for the harvest crews until she married Joe T. Wilkinson on May
2 CONC 6 1963. Joe worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and so they
2 CONC moved about always returning to "home" at Prescott. Joe died in
2 CONC January 1975 and Arvilla continued to live at Prescott until her
2 CONC death in 1989.

2 CONC loved being active in the Prescott Community Church.

2 CONC summers in Waitsburg Wa at the cannery. She entered the Nursing

2 CONT She met Gerald Bird thru a cousin- Leonard York- and they were
2 CONC married June 4,1950 in Walla Walla Wa. They lived  in Walla
2 CONC Walla, where Gerald worked at Gradwahl Furniture. They moved to
2 CONC Pasco Wa in March 1951 where Ellen went to work for Our Lady of
2 CONC Lourdes Hospital. Gerald entered the Dental Technician
2 CONC apprenticeship under the G.I. Bill.
2 CONT Their son Howard was born in Walla Walla  January 28 1953. The
2 CONC family bought a home in Pasco, Gerald finished his training and
2 CONC went to work for the dental lab in Pasco  till October 1955.
2 CONC Edward was born in November 1955. Gerald worked for the Pasco
2 CONC Armory and Ellen went to work at Kennewick General.
2 CONT October 1956 found the Birds moving to Sunnyside Wa. Gerald
2 CONC worked for the Dental Lab and purchased it in the 1960's. Ellen
2 CONC became active in PTA and Gerald went into Boy Scouting. Ellen
2 CONC worked at the local hospitals and did some private nursing. She
2 CONC also worked for the Job Corps Indian Health and finally Head
2 CONC Start. Ellen retired in 1988.

1 NOTE Gerald was born in Overton Nebraska and moved with his parents
2 CONC to Milton in 1934. He graduated from Mac Hi in 1943, entered the
2 CONC Air Force and served until 1946. During  survival training in
2 CONC the Florida Keys, Gerald almost drowned. As a result of this
2 CONC incident, he never served overseas. 
2 CONT He met Ellen Mayberry and they married in June 1950. He worked
2 CONC at Gradwahl Furniture, until a previous back injury forced him
2 CONC to look for other work. They moved to Pasco Wa in March 1951,
2 CONC where Gerald under the GI bill entered the  Dental Tech
2 CONC apprenticeship.
2 CONT Gerald finished his training and worked for the dental lab in
2 CONC Pasco until October 1955.Gerald worked for the Pasco Armory,
2 CONC while Ellen worked for Kennewick General. They moved to
2 CONC Sunnyside Washington in October 1956 with their two sons, Howard

2 CONC early '60's. Gerald helped out in Boy Scouts while the boys were
2 CONC growing up. Gerald gave up the lab in the 1970's and went to
2 CONC work for the credit union and Sea-First Bank until  the 1980's.

2 CONT He married Glendoris Wilson in 1936 and had one son Terry. They
2 CONC lived in Milton-Freewater until World War II broke out. They
2 CONC then moved to Portland Oregon, where Mike worked in the
2 CONC shipyards. After the war ended, the family moved back to
2 CONC Milton-Freewater where Mike operated a service station.

2 CONC Jean.
2 CONT They moved to Pendleton, where Mike worked for the Ford garage.

2 CONC bookkeeper. He was there only a short time when he passed away

2 CONC employed by Pfizer, Inc. and they moved to the Chicago area.
2 CONC They lived there for about 4 1/2 years, then moved to Terre
2 CONC Haute, Indiana. They weren't there really long enough to unpack,
2 CONC for he was moved to New York City within 8 months. They moved to
2 CONC and lived in New Jersey for 5 years, before being transferred to
2 CONC Groton, Ct. They lived  there for 9 years, just a half a mile
2 CONC from the shore/beach. During this time, Eleanor was quite active
2 CONC in Girl Scouts and keeping the off-spring out of too much
2 CONC mischief.
2 CONT They retired from Pfizer in 1980 and moved to New Jersey once
2 CONC again, where Ken went to work for Merck and Company. Eleanor
2 CONC also went back to work in a Podiatrist's office. Eleanor retired

2 CONT Loran joined the Air Force(for what he thought would be for four
2 CONC years) and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. Ranona joined
2 CONC him in January 1958 and they were married in the post chapel on
2 CONC Keesler Air Force Base.
2 CONT The Air Force then sent them to Tripoli, Libya; San Antonio
2 CONC Texas; RAF Chicksands, England and back to San Antonio. After 21
2 CONC years in the service, Loran retired and they  lived in San
2 CONC Antonio until Ranona's death
2 CONT Ranona also worked for the Air Force in a civilian capacity for
2 CONC many years. She was in the position as Secretary to the
2 CONC Commanding General, Electronic Security Command.
2 CONT She earned her 25 year Civil Service Recognition in 1991. She

2 CONC gasoline and oil business, and bought it from Otto. He was the
2 CONC Phillips 66 petroleum distributor for 26 years. He also owned
2 CONC and operated York Fertilizer Co. for many years, and later sold
2 CONC the business.
2 CONT He married Iris Anona Thomason on June 6 1935 in Hooper
2 CONC Washington. They made  their home in Pasco Washington, while
2 CONC Bill worked for Texaco Oil Comapny. They later divorced. During
2 CONC WWII, he flew search and rescue aircraft for the Civil Patrol.
2 CONT He served seven years on the Milton-Freewater City Council and
2 CONC was electedmayor for 5 1/2 years. He was acting city manager for
2 CONC a time during the selection of a new city manager.
2 CONT While mayoring, he received a citation honoring his collective
2 CONC leadership in Oregon's local government. The Portland Chamber of
2 CONC Commerce gave him a recognition award for community work.
2 CONT On April 25 1971, he married Patricia Haynie Willimas in Eugene.
2 CONC They moved to Pendleton and he worked for Pendleton Realty until
2 CONC his retirement.
2 CONT Bill was a member of the First Christian Church, a 52 year
2 CONC member of the Milton Lodge #96 AF&AM, Al Kader Temple of the

2 CONC could. He was also an avid hunter and Boy Scout enthusiast. He
2 CONC was an Eagle Scout. However, his main devotion was to his
2 CONC Christian faith and serving others
2 CONT Bob and Betty had two children Sharon Lynn and John Scott. They
2 CONC raised their children in Athena.
2 CONT Bob passed away in August 1985 from colon cancer.

2 CONC is a part of the original farm). He also continued the tradition
2 CONC of milling and built a mill on the upper end of the creek. One
2 CONC of the millstone has been engraved as a tombstone for Hoyt
2 CONC Badgett, a great grandson. It is located in the Union Church
2 CONC Yard Cemetery. The stone came from Sheffield, England.

2 CONC family as William age 51, wife Lidda age 49, children King age

2 CONT On Jan 7, 1846, William sold 45 acres of land for $90, on Mar
2 CONC 10, 1848 he sold 136 acres for $300. Both times it was purchased
2 CONC by Jacob Fulk.

2 CONT In 1888, at the age of 68, William left his home and family and
2 CONC headed west. According to family legend, William had several
2 CONC cousins who had gone out west and struck it rich, so he decided
2 CONC to follow. Why his wife and family stayed behind is unknown. He
2 CONC traveled by train to Weston, Oregon where a cousin, Hezekiah Key
2 CONC lived. He spent Thanksgiving with Hezekiah and his family, where
2 CONC he developed pneumonia and died on Dec 6, 1888. He was buried at
2 CONC Weston, Oregon. A picture was made of him and his casket, and
2 CONC was sent back home to his widow and many of his brothers and
2 CONC sisters. Some of his children may have went to Oregon at the
2 CONC same time or later as Kenneth Key states that his daughter Mary
2 CONC and her husband Thomas Hickman died and were buried in Oregon.

2 CONT His widow continued to live in Surry County, NC. On October 22,
2 CONC 1895, her children signed an agreement for her son G. O. Key,
2 CONC who was the administrator of his father's estate, to pay out of
2 CONC the estate, board and other expenses for their mother. The
2 CONC amount was to be four dollars per month if she was up or five
2 CONC dollars per month if she was confined to bed. Any extra expense
2 CONC should be paid in addition to above. On July 12, 1912, the final
2 CONC settlement of William S. Key's $1650.92 estate was made. After
2 CONC expenses the amount for distribution among his children was
2 CONC $871.59.
